  • if only i could switch loan servicer

i've never seen worse customer service elsewhere. In fact, I'm wondering if they actually have customer service department at all. Unprofessional, disrespectful, no training in customer service at all. I've had many unnecessary problems within a year since having them as my servicer, and yet customer service has been extremely slow, inefficient, disrespectful. I don't want AES to make money off me. Actually, I called my lender directly to resolve my issues. Thank you AES. Once I find out who is in charge of you, Dept of Education?? I can't wait for your company to... More...

AES/PHEAA ARE A DISGRACE!!! These people do what they want to do with peoples loans. They tell you that you are not eligible for a forbearance or anything else. You then tell them what you can afford to pay and they refuse. They want you to pay, but will not accept any type of payment. They are out to ruin peoples credit and they are so unethical. They have screwed my loans up and I am doing everything I can to get another company to pick them up and I pay them. PHEAA is in with AES and they are just as BAD. I would advise anyone who has AES or PHEAA run and get someone else to pick up your... More...

  • AES got one of my loans defaulted

I have two loans that were being serviced by AES. I was paying one online and the other through my bank. I went to pay online and it says that one of my loans "defaulted". I thought, this can't be right because I pay both every month. So I call them and they tell me I in fact defaulted. I come to find out that they have both of my loans under the same account number and were only applying payments to one account so the other went into default. So when I complain they tell me that when I set up bill pay with my bank I have to specify the original lender I want the payment to... More...

  • Most stressful way to manages huge debt.

I had a lot of problems getting in school deferment of my loans while I was in law school. It turns out they had all of my loans on forbearance which accumulates interest... I don't know if it was ever adjusted. On top of that after I graduated I went through a periord from June -October where I had to call multiple times a week to try to get the repayment plans sorted out. They sent multiple letters about new repayment plans waivering from $55/month to around $1500 / month! I was in constant fear that I would somehow default or get poor reports to credit companies. It was so... More...

  • AES Crap for Payment Options

Really, what LEGITIMATE business doesn't take a debit/credit card either online or at least over the phone????? I'm not paying with my checking or savings and I'm NOT giving them my bank account numbers! If they refuse my form of payment, does that mean that they don't want my payment??? What kind of slip-shod business is this??? When I sent them an inquiry, it took them 4 days to answer me... REALLY?!?! Then informed me that my payment was late.. Duh!!! You took 4 days to answer me!!!! No matter what I have to do, I'm consolidating this loan to another agency. I... More...

  • AES-Almost got my loan defaulted

For the past 5 months I've tried to get an in-school forbearance on my loan. But every time I sent it in, they told me I sent in the wrong form, which is funny, because it's the same form they sent me when I requested it. Then they don't maintain regular contact with PNC (the lender) about my account status, so I get calls about delinquencies that have been taken care of for a while now. I was notified yesterday that my loan was to be defaulted, even though almost a month ago, I had my school send in an in-school forbearance. Luckily, AES is no longer servicing the loan and... • AES - Lousy service, wretched record keeping

Idiots - I tried getting some information about my account. The first person I spoke with asked for my name, SS # and birth date. Gave her the information and she provided the information I wanted. I called back looking for a little more information, primarily the interest paid last year for tax purposes. This time the person I got said I had the wrong birthdate and demanded I sent them a birth certificate. I assured her my birthdate had not changed in over 50 years and certainly had not changed in the last two hours. The person was adamant I sent them a birth certificate. I went to their... More...

  • AES is unethical

Since AES purchased my student loan from my former provider, I have been charged additional fees of $3500.00 that AES states was an oversight on the part of my former provider. In addition they have had me re-submit my IBR forms which my former provider did as well, but have sent them back sayin I did not provide the signed tax form. The signed tax form along with payroll stubs were sent three times. Since than I have continued to pay my original IBR amount but AES has incresed the payment to over 4 times the amount and now say I am overdue $1800.00 plus interest. There has to be some... More...

  • Worst Company I have ever dealt with

I have never been treated as poorly as I have been treated by American Education Services, both on phone and email. The first encounter was by phone a few years back when I had defer payment after graduation because I was unable to find work. The woman on the phone condescendingly told me that "it must be nice to stay at home and not work". It went through me because I had applied for dozens of jobs, and had gotten no response so far. I wrote it off because it was one person, and sometimes it is hard to leave personal life at home when things get bad. However this past... More...

  • this company is terrible!

I originally had three student loans with American Education Services. I recently consolidated two of them with a different company. When that company sent over payment for the loans apparently they sent the wrong amount and were short approx. $20. I was not notified of this. I made my monthly student loan payment IN FULL expecting the payment to be made to the one loan I still had with AES. AES took my payment and split it between the three loans to cover the balance left behind from the consolidation which I did not know about or approve. The following Monday they listed my account as... More...

  • AES

American Education Services is the worst student loan company anywhere! I have $80,000 in student loans between Direct Loans and Express Loans. I recently consolidated all of my loans with Direct Loans. Direct Loans paid off Express Loans and sent them a check for the amount I owed them. However, Express loans sold my loan to American Express Services in the middle of my consolidation. AES received my loan AND the pay off check from Express Loans via Direct Loans. Despite AES having the check they continued to try and collect over $300 a month from me in student loans. After numerous... More...

  • Very Questionable Methods

I used AES for student loans during college, totaling over 30K. After college, I commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps which happened to pay for college loans the year I commissioned. The Marine Corps has been paying off 1/3 of my debt every year for the past 3 years, this being the last year. Every year I've struggled with the same problems, trying to get AES to keep my loans in deferment and trying to get them to fill 1 form out and either fax it back to me or to the Department of Defense. I begin the process every Jan and it is finally over by July (after multiple, multiple... More...

  • Incompetent and Unethical Business Practices

I had a PLUS loan with American Education Services (AES) on which we were making quarterly interest payments while the loan was in forebearance (principal deferment until my son was out of college.) For some reason that was never explained to us, AES changed the invoice format on these quarterly interest payments to ones that had a big THIS IS NOT A BILL watermark across it and a $0.00 amount due in the invoice section. However, in very small font above the invoice section, it stated that you could make interest payments if you wanted to. Since I set up the loans, and my wife usually... More...

  • AES Fails to Return Overpayments

I recently had a conversation with an AES supervisor about the payoff of my law school loans. She gave me a final payoff figure that corresponded to the amount of the final payment due if my electronic bank transfer was completed in two days. I told her that I would have my bank do the transfer that very day. I asked her what happens if AES receives and processes my final payment a day early. How would my overpayment be handled? She told me that if the overpayment is more than $5.00, I would receive a reimbursement check from AES. But, if the overpayment is less than $5.00, AES would... More...

I WOULD NEVER GET A LOAN FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!! I started attending college in 2005. Well I received one by AES and I wish I would have never even bothered! This was the worst experience I have EVER had! They give you a complete run around. They tell you to fill out one form for deferment and the next thing you know its the wrong form so you send in another and thats the wrong one too!! They have no idea what they are doing! It is a complete mess. They NEVER help you and next thing you know your loan will be in collections!! DO NOT GET A LOAN FROM THIS COMPANY More...

  • American Education Service

About five years ago, I co-signed with this company for a student loan for my son-in-law. He wanted to go to school in England and could not get a loan from any Brazilian banks to go to school in a foreign country. My son-in-law has graduated and now holds an very high position with the Brazilian government. He has made all of his loan payments in a timely manner and pays more than the amount due. For the past year I have been getting harassing letters and threats from American Education Service. Instead of contacting my son-in-law or looking to him for payment, they go after me. I... More...

  • Won't even make it easy to make a payment

I pay by check over the phone. I do this because if I mail in the check- they cash it whenever they want-regardless of the date written on the check. I had signed up for direct debit, which they screwed up and took too much money out of my account and refused to refund it. Ans, I couldn't even cancel that over the phone. I had to Fax a letter stating I wanted it canceled. Can their call center staff do ANYTHING?? What is the point of calling them? They can't even take a payment. They can't give you your account number after playing 20 questions, but you can create an online... More...

  • Terrible company

I took a loan out and agreed to pay $50 a month back 6 months after I left school. This is pretty standard. They waited 10 months before they sent me a bill even though I called and asked. When I got that first bill it said I was four months behind, go figure. I called to make sure they had my right address, they had. They had no record of any previous bills being sent but still wouldn't waive the late fees. Now they are calling me and my co-signer up to 14 times a day trying to get me to pay faster. That's right faster, I havent' missed a single payment and yet they... More...

  • AES: Poor Business

Here's a good story. I took out a student loan with AES in August 2007 to finish my BSN in nursing. In May of 2009, I received a statement with a balance of $2467.34 due by June 12th 2009. My payments would have started at that time also and they were going to be $25.38 per month. I decided to pay this amount in full, so on June 10th, 2009, I paid AES the balance of $2467.34 in one full payment. The payoff was the same day, as I have confirmation with my bank. A couple of days later AES sends me a bill with another balance on it of $25.38. When I called AES, the rep informs me that... More...

  • AES

AES employees are incompetent and dangerous. THey CONSISTENTLY give me wrong information. They have called me on my cell phone insisting I make a payment immediately because it was late, so I made it, then found out months later that they had been wrong, then misapplied the other payment to principal and continued to harass me again about the next payment. In another instance, I made a full payment of 500 as agreed and they thanked me by reporting me to the credit bureau. More...

  • Illegal Collection Acts

This company is Horrible. I missed a payment several times when i was unemployed. My father was listed as a cosigner and they called him over 8 times a day at work. We sent a letter to notify them to stop calling him at work as the Consumer Credit Protection Act says you are supposed to do. i was told by a customer service person they were subject to no state law because this is a federal loan. When informed this was a federal law they said it didn't effect them and they would continue to call whoever they needed to get it paid and I was hungup on. More...

  • Beware of AES

For everyone's information. In 2003 I took a student loan out for my daughter and started paying back the loan immediately. Approximately 2 years later they increased my payments (I was already paying more than was due) and I did not know. When I was finally made aware of this problem it was instantly corrected and I again payed more than was due. Now 3 years later after the fix I'm buying a new house and realize they are reporting me as being late 5 times past 30 days and 1 time past 60 days. Keep in mind they got money from me every month. I've tried appealing to them... More...

  • Horrible Customer Service

American Education Services (AES) at one time was the average student loan lender, until they changed something. I cannot make an online payment anymore due to them saying my bank send a letter saying my routing number changed. I called my bank and they stated that they never sent such a letter. AES customer service has twice now gotten in a heated debate with me stating that my bank has sent in the letter, who is the one that would know more? Of course everytime I call there is no one on the clock that is available to assit me in this matter, and they cannot let someone know, so I must... More...
